Errai Sarin (pronounced: Eh-RYE SUH-reen ) is a Rephaite and a member of the Ranthen.

Biography[]

History[]

Errai and his kin did not volunteer as keepers for Bone Season XX. However he does have several tenants from the previous Bone Season, but he seldom sees them. He and ten of his cousins are aligned with the Ranthen. He says his family's duties don't lie in keepership.

The Mime Order[]

Errai and Terebell Sheratan accost Paige Mahoney in I-4. They want Paige to find Warden using her spiritual link with him, the golden cord. She traces him to the Rag and Bone Man’s den in Camden, where he is being held captive.

After recovering from his ordeal, Warden brings Paige to meet with Terebell. Errai, Lucida Sargas, and Pleione Sualocin are there as well. Errai tells Paige that they believe Haymarket Hector's murder was a Rephaite assassin, most likely Situla Mesarthim because she is fond of decapitation. When Paige attempts to hand him a copy of The Rephaite Revelation, he looks at her "hand as if it were a dead rat."[1] He lectures Paige for speaking to Terebell in anything other than a respectful, subordinate tone. When Paige tells Terebell that she will need money to turn the syndicate into an army, Errai expresses his disgust of humans's greed and their constant fighting over material possessions when they don't last. Errai tells Paige that the Ranthen have never acted before now because they are waiting for the amaranth to bloom in the Netherworld. They believe it is the true sign of their "opportunity to revive what has faded."[1] Terbell requires Paige to submit herself to training with Errai and Pleione. Errai immediately refuses and Paige convinces Terebell to let her train with Warden instead. The group of Rephaim then leave.

Errai, Pleione, and Warden arrive just when Nick Nygård seals the salt circle around himself, Paige, Eliza Renton, and Zeke Sáenz after they are attacked by an Emite. The Emite escapes. The next morning, Errai and the other Ranthen meet Paige and Warden outside the safe house they spent the night at with the others. Terebell tells her that Situla has been sighted in Cheapside. The Ranthen are staying in their own safe house in the East End until the scrimmage. Paige asks Terebell to look for Ivy Jacob and the other Sheol I survivors who have been captured by the Abbess. The Ranthen arrive just after the scrimmage ends, and they bring the Sheol I survivors.

The Song Rising[]

Terebell sends Errai to witness Ivy's trial. Errai attends the meeting between Paige and the Ranthen after Ivy's trial. Terebell informs Paige that the Ranthen are going to the Netherworld to search for allies. They hope to find Adhara Sarin who is rumored to have Ranthen sympathies. During the meeting he makes a speech about how horrible human machinery is and how ethereal technology is a desecration.

Upon finding Adhara, Errai and Mira Sarin stay in the Netherworld to help Terebell begin attempts to forge an alliance with Adhara.

Physical Description[]

Errai is as tall as Warden and "lean as a knife." He is bald and has wide-spaced eyes. He has the silver sarx of the Sarin family, described as being like "argent satin." His eyes are normally chartreuse yellow, except for when he's fed on aura. He wears a long woolen coat, sturdy winter boots, tailored trousers, and elbow-length, buttoned gloves. As is typical with Rephaim, it's impossible to tell how old or young Errai is. His back is noticeably muscled. He wears all black.

Personality[]

Errai dislikes humans, but is willing to work with the Mime Order in order to defeat Nashira Sargas. He is disgusted by humans's greed and their constant fighting over material possessions. He has little patience for syndicate politics. He scrutinizes Paige at every opportunity. Like all Rephaim, his dreamscape is armored. He is rather cryptic. Paige describes him as "about as friendly as a punch in the mouth."[2] He believes human machinery poisons the air and taints the ground. He finds much of it to be inelegant and destructive. He finds ethereal batteries to be disgraceful and a desecration.
