Amaranth is the only flower that grows in the Netherworld. It has several medicinal uses for both humans and Rephaim.

Description[]

Amaranth's name means "unfading." It has eight petals and a coy glow. Its essence can be used to heal or alleviate pain caused by spiritual injuries. For example, it can be used on poltergeist scars or a damaged dreamscape. It is capable of healing Paige Mahoney's brain should she use her spirit too often without life support. It helps voyants recover from spirit shock. The amaranth is also the basis for the name of the Ranthen, and is used as their symbol. The amaranth in bloom is the Ranthen's call to arms as they believe it is the true sign of their "opportunity to revive what has faded."[1]

Events with Amaranth[]

  • Nashira Sargas gives Warden and the other Ranthen doses of amaranth as a reward after their poltergeist torture following Bone Season XVIII.
  • Warden pours some on Paige's poltergeist wound from their first training session.
  • Warden gives Liss Rymore amaranth to help revive her after she goes into spirit shock.
  • During the Bicentenary Celebration, Pleione Sualocin gives Warden a small vial of amaranth so he can heal Paige after her fight with Nashira.
  • Warden leaves a small vial of amaranth in Paige's backpack after she escapes Sheol I. She later uses it to remove the incriminating mark of the London Monster.
